Oil lamps – the light of life
Clay lamps, inspired by Judaic folded oil lamps of the Second Temple period (516 BCE – 70 CE).
Special edition, made to order, commissioned by Holyland Pilgrimage Tours for the sacred community of LLUC.

Soils gathered from Banias, Santa Katarina (mt. Sinai) and Ramon Crater in the Negev – screened through a fine mesh.



Soils mixed into a terracotta clay block.


Shallow bowls / plates formed on a throwing wheel.


Plates folded to shape when clay has dried a bit, yet still flexible, then stamped with the HIRA studio logo 平.


Hand carved: LLUC.

Fired in a kiln to 1200 °C.
